Q&A with Catinka Träger

Catinka started at Litorina in the beginning of 2021. Below are some of her thoughts about how it is to work at Litorina as an Associate.

  • Why did you choose to work at Litorina?
  • Working at a small firm appealed to me (I have about 15 colleagues). It is by nature a work environment where you will be visible, get to know everyone well and where you need to work together as a team.

Additionally, the entrepreneurial feeling at Litorina attracted me, and I could see how engaged, friendly, and passionate people were during the interviews. I also felt that I would get the support I needed to be able to grow and expand my knowledge and skills.

Other than that, working with private equity transactions the way I would do as an Associate at Litorina really interested me. I looked forward to getting the opportunity to analyze an investment opportunity from different angles, to try to grasp the complexities of a deal, and to follow investments through the whole investment cycle. What really interested me was the opportunity to have the ability to impact investments, to take part in giving firms the tools they need to develop and to ultimately do something good for society by developing healthy and sustainable companies. In other words, taking part in creating jobs both now and in the long run while adding value to customers, investors, and other stakeholders.

  • What do you like about Litorina?
  • I like that it is a small firm where your work is visible to everybody. I like that people who work here are smart, engaged, passionate and inclusive. It inspires me and is a good environment to grow in.

  • What has your first months at Litorina been like?
  • They have been inspiring, exciting, intense, and also very developing. I joined in a quite busy time for the firm with a lot of live transactions and projects already in the air. From day one I got to work with a live transaction which was exciting and definitely increased/sharpened my learning curve. After that first project I have worked with other live transactions, also both exciting and developing. Simultaneously I have had support from my coach at the firm and everyone involved in my onboarding program.

Everyone has been, although demanding, also very supportive and helped me learn. Naturally, most tasks are in one way or another new to me, and I am grateful for the help, understanding and support I have been given. All of which is essential to progress.

  • What do you like with your position as an Associate at Litorina?
  • It is a very developing position; I learn a lot. It is fun to be engaged in live transactions and to analyze investment opportunities. You have to look at investments from both a financial and strategic/commercial view which is both fun, challenging and inspiring.

  • Which tasks do you do frequently in your job?
  • LBO modeling in Excel, various other firm and industry analyses in Excel, creating presentations in PowerPoint, talking to industry experts, participating in calls and meetings, reading legal documents, reading up on industries and companies, and more..

Aside from that I also perform tasks more related to the ongoing development of Litorina, such as keeping track of the deal pipeline, taking part in developing our ESG work and so forth.

  • What skills/traits do you need to apply for the same position as you have and who would you recommend this job to?
  • First and foremost, I would recommend this job to someone who is genuinely interested in Private Equity and is eager to learn and contribute. You should have a great interest in both the financial and the commercial side of a business and you should like to take a broader perspective, look at societal trends and forecast where the world is going, while at the same time pay great attention to detail.

In other words, you are a person who likes to analyze firms from both a strategic, an operational and a financial point of view. You like to take responsibility and to be in the driver’s seat, you want to learn and to constantly develop yourself, you are an action-oriented team player, and you like a job with a diverse set of tasks.

You should also enjoy working in a high paced environment where you can be productive and see results quickly. Finally, you should have a mindset of constantly analyzing things to be able to make informed decisions and progress your work.
